The Kids’ Halloween Costumes
Author: Midnight Goddess
Halloween’s less than a week away. We’ll be taking the kids to one or two of the malls this year as we have done for the past several years. It’s safe and we’re surrounded by many other families who trick or treat at the malls. We have yet to take the kids to the neighborhoods to go trick or treating. We did that with Memphis when we lived in WA. I think when Jaz is a little bit older, we’ll go from house to house.
Since Marty was off this past weekend, we went to the Spirit Halloween store on Stevens Creek to buy costumes for the kids. I figured it’d be the only time we’d have to go as a family to the store. When we got there, the store looked ransacked. I expected that because it’s so close to Halloween. We went to the girls’ section first. I didn’t even bother suggesting girly costumes to Jaz. I saw a race car driver’s costume and showed it to her and her face lit up. I knew at that point that I picked the right one for her.
It was slightly more difficult to find a costume for Memphis. He first wanted to be a toilet. I didn’t see the costume that he was referring to but I wasn’t too big on walking around with a toilet following me. Then he wanted to be Po from Kung Fu Panda. But I know he’s very sensitive about his head and rarely wants to put objects on his head for any reason. The costume required him to put on an insanely large Po head. Then Marty saw Iron Man and suggested that to him. When we were on our way to the store, Memphis had mentioned that he wanted a costume that had a mask to cover his face. He didn’t want people to see the sore on his face. The Iron Man came with a mask perfect for that. So Memphis agreed to be Iron Man this year.
To keep it simple, we grabbed two identical pumpkin buckets for the kids. It was the cheapest ones at less than $2 per bucket but the kids care. So I was happy about that.

Author: Midnight Goddess
The 4th of July marked a decade of me and Marty knowing each other and today was the anniversary of our relationship. If someone had told me 10 years ago that I was going to meet the man of my dreams and the father of my two beautiful children on the 4th of July, I would have laughed at them.
Our decade together has been filled with a ton of ups and downs, mostly downs. But we survived it all together and our relationship is still intact and better than ever before. That’s the most important thing. A good majority of young couples don’t last this long but we have. I’m proud of us.
We didn’t have any money to celebrate our decade anniversary but that’s ok. Yesterday, we went over to Aunt Cris’ house to participate in Mom’s 50th surprise birthday party. Relatives and friends were there to help us celebrate this momentous occasion. Needless to say, Mom was surprised but happy. There were a lot of good food, conversation, and entertainment. Good times. Look out for some photos in the next few days!
Happy Father’s Day…
Author: Midnight Goddess
Well, we didn’t anything spectacular or specifically anything special for Marty today. He was asked to work either yesterday or today for Master Plumbing and he chose to do it today of all days. I wasn’t mad because we didn’t have anything planned anyway. So instead of doing nothing, he decided to be productive and work for 6 hours and get paid doing it.
When he got home, we took showers and got the kids dressed. Marty had told me that his coworker Matt had invited the family to hang out with him, his wife and their kids for a barbeque. I was weary of doing it because I’m a homebody who doesn’t really have any friends. I would like to have good friends that I can trust and have fun just hanging out with. But being a mom with two kids and who doesn’t like to drive, I don’t get out much.
So I reluctantly agreed to take the kids with us over to Matt’s house. He only lives a few blocks away from us in a mobile park. When we got there I was sort of nervous. I’m a very likeable person. I just get nervous around people. It doesn’t really show though.
When we walked in, I looked around and started to relax. Their house was a mess. There was nothing formal or uptight about it. There were toys and clothes everywhere. There were two rambunctious boys, Mateus who’s 5 I think (spelling is probably incorrect) and Tobias who just turned two. Very close in age with Jasmine and Memphis. Our kids were a little cautious at first but that didn’t take long for them to relax and get into the thick of things.
The plan was that we would stay there for an hour or so to nibble on food and then we’d excuse ourselves to go pick up Sean later. But as it turned out, he didn’t feel like leaving his house today so we ended up staying at Matt’s house for several hours. I think 4 or 5 hours. The time actually flew by very fast because Matt’s wife Laurie is very talkative, laid back and funny. We all had a lot to say and talk about.
I admit, I actually had a great time. Even Sean was surprised to hear that I was socializing. We might even actually do this again. Matt and Laurie pretty much do this every weekend because it’s a lot easier for them to just hang out at home with their 4 kids than it is for them to all pack up and go out.
Anyway, that’s what we did for Father’s Day. I hope that all you dads out there had a good day.
Happy Mother’s Day!
Author: Midnight Goddess
I want to say happy Mother’s Day to all the moms in this world. Being a mom is the toughest job I love.
Today was a simple but a good day for me. Memphis only upset me a little bit today so that was good. Me and Marty had a little “blip” that I won’t mention here because I’ve made a conscious decision to stop dwelling in the past and also to avoid looking and dwelling about negative things. I’m making every effort to be much happier and to look for the positive… the silver lining in everything. It’s hard but I’m doing really good.
We didn’t go out today. Mother’s Day is one of the busiest holidays of the year for restaurants. Stereotypically speaking, moms are seen as the ones who do all the cooking. So husbands, kids, and others feel that taking moms to brunch, lunch, or dinner would be a nice gift. Not to mention that a lot of these people don’t know how to cook.
But not Marty. He knows how to cook, and I love that about him. For lunch, he cooked tri tip steak with spinach. Sean was here to hang out with us for awhile so he had lunch with us. And for dinner, Marty cooked me one of my favorite meals: prime rib roast and grilled veggies. Yummy! Both meals turned out awesome.
I was feeling really tired so Marty was sweet enough to let me take a nice long nap in the afternoon. He took care of the kids while I slept. Oh, and I also received a cute card from him. Usually, he gets sentimental cards. This time, it was a funny one
So that’s what went on on Mother’s Day for me. I hope everyone else had a great day like I did.
Easter Weekend
Author: Midnight Goddess
Marty worked his butt off all weekend… like he has been been for almost 2 months. He’s had a couple different landscaping jobs as well as the work he does for his uncle. So he hasn’t had much of a day off. We promised Memphis that we’d take him and Jasmine to the Easter egg hunt last Saturday. The Friday before, me and Carie had taken the kids to Walmart and bought Memphis a Spongebob Easter basket and a pink foam empty basket for Jaz. I also got her a Dora playset since she didn’t get a basket filled with cheesy toys. I didn’t buy any candy because their grandparents in WA sent them bags of candy and I knew they were going to get more in the eggs that they find at the park. Way more than enough.
On Saturday, Marty worked for a few hours before he got home and took us to the Easter egg hunt at Paul Moore Park. Me and Marty always called it Cherry park because it was right off of Cherry. Anyway, we arrived there with just a few minutes to spare. There was a huge turnout. There were kids everywhere. I guess they had two sections littered with eggs all over the grass. The kids didn’t have to hunt for the eggs. They were just there.
Marty took Jaz to one of the sections and I took Memphis to the other. We had no idea that we didn’t have to separate. I wish we stuck together so I could take pics of Jaz’s first egg hunt. But there was so much chaos going on. They let the 4 and under kids go first and were given like a minute and 20 seconds. Then Memphis’ age group. He didn’t get a whole lot. It was the first time he really had to “compete” for eggs with other kids. He didn’t get the plastic toys or pencils at first. He was going after the eggs. But I was proud of him nonetheless. The important thing was that he had a good time. Sean showed to chill with us. Marty helped Jaz by crouching over some eggs and pointing to them while she scooped them up. She got like 6 or so eggs.
After chatting with Shelane (the church daycare lady) and letting the kids play at the playground, we all headed back home. Marty had a quick lunch and headed back to work while me, Sean, and the kids stayed home. Sean watched TV and played Xbox while I worked on the friggin photo album project.
A few hours later, Marty got back and played an hour of Halo with Sean. After that, Sean left and we took off for Gilroy. We were supposed to show up sometime after 6 pm at Aunt Cris’ house for dinner. We got there at 7:30 pm. But they hadn’t started cooking yet. It was a good thing I had eaten some cookies on the way over.
Me and Marty got engrossed in watching the 10 Commandments movie while dinner was being cooked. When dinner was ready, I was starved. We ate a good meal of steak, crab, and rice. Yummy! Even Memphis ate all his steak and even asked for more. He didn’t eat the rice but that’s ok.
I was irritated because I forgot to take photos. Uncle Ricky, Lei and Raven were leaving for the PI for 3 weeks yesterday. Oh well. I’ll see them again.
Can you believe Tyler has a cell phone??? WTF??? My mom didn’t even want to get me a pager. But Nelson bought me one when I was a freshman in high school. Mom thought she got it for me when I was still at St. Leo’s. Yeah right. Nelson had to prove her wrong because she didn’t believe me.
The kids had a great time because Tyler and Raven were there. The boys pretty much played the Wii the whole time except when Raven and Memphis kept running around making loud noises. Poor Jaz kept slipping and hurting herself. She’s not used to running on slippery wood floors.
I talked to my Ninong Jr for a few minutes. I greeted him a happy birthday because it was his 45th birthday a few days ago. Actually a half hour before, I was on the phone with apparently Ernie. He didn’t understand me because he doesn’t understand English. I didn’t know it was him until Uncle Ricky told me. I hate that guy for reasons that won’t be spoken of here.
As for Easter, we didn’t actually go to church. Marty hadn’t had a good night sleep in a long time and I felt he really needed to recuperate. A person can only take so much. So we slept in. He still worked on the landscaping job. But what mattered was that he got enough sleep. It was pretty much a regular day. Late at night we boiled eggs and I helped Memphis dye them. The blue dye got on the counter and a kitchen towel got stained blue. So I threw it out. That’s pretty much my weekend.
